As of 7am this morning Fiona Stanley Hospital is officially open for business.
After a staggered opening over several months the hospitals' final element, the 70 bed Emergency Department, opened today.
United Voice member Karen says there is a very positive feeling around the opening of the new hospital.
“Everyone is really excited,” she said.
Since the initial opening a huge number of hospital staff have joined United Voice, including many who have transferred from other Perth hospitals including Fremantle, Royal Perth and Shenton Park.
This means today, at it's official opening, an overwhelming majority of support staff at Fiona Stanley Hospital are United Voice members!
“It’s really good. Everyone is very positive and we feel more together than during the last few months in the old hospitals, when everyone had lost morale.”
"It’s important to belong to United Voice because it’s safety in numbers,” she says.
After many delays and setbacks the 783-bed $2billion facility, which began opening in October last year, will finally be fully operational in March with the start of heart and lung transplant services.
