State Budget: $34.8 million NDIS funding

NDIS Quality Care = Quality funding

United Voice, the union for Disability Support workers, welcomes the announcement of an additional $34.8 million in funding by the Western Australian State Government, to ensure a smoother transition for Western Australians into the NDIS.

United Voice WA Assistant Secretary Karma Lord  said the additional funding is essential to ensure a quality disability sector in Western Australia for people with disabilities, their families and workers.

“People with disabilities, their families and workers deserve a reliable sector, with high quality standards and care.”

Our Turn to Care’s Action Packed Day

On the early morning hours of April 19, standing on the street edge with boards at the ready, a sea of supporters from the Our Turn to Care campaign were ready to make some noise.

The sea consisted of family members and Aged Care workers who were campaigning for an increase in funding for the sector.

Sometimes it's the little things..

Richard - Sometimes it's the little things...

"Being a Union member has helped me a number of times, but sometimes it's the little things which really matter." - Richard

Richard works in security, and until recently he had been employed as a 'casual' - despite working full-time hours for over 12 months in a row.

As a man in his sixties, the lack of job security as a casual was a serious concern for Richard. So, when his employer advertised a number of permanent positions, Richard was very keen.

Unfortunately, Richard was also a bit nervous and didn't like his chances of getting one of these permanent jobs - particularly because of his age. He wasn’t even sure whether or not it was worth trying.

But Richard is a Union member and decided to call the Union office to seek an honest opinion and a bit of support.
