The first Sunday in May is a very important day in the union calendar; it is when all union members unite to celebrate May Day.
May Day was created to celebrate the achievements of the labour movement, in particular the introduction of the eight hour working day.
This year it will be held on the 4th of May, down at the Fremantle Esplanade.
It will begin with a march around Fremantle before ending with a family friendly fair with rides, food and music.
United Voice member Nathan says that it’s important to celebrate May Day and the achievements of the union.
“It’s important to have a strong union to stand up for the future generations of workers and their families,” he said.
“It’s important to attend and acknowledge May Day to create unity and strength in our workforce.
“It’s a day that can really bring people together and that everybody should become a part of.”
