Just about everyone agrees the Big Steps Case is the way to fix the crisis in Australia’s child care system – educators, United Voice, parents, the previous and current governments, and most employers.
In December Sussan Ley, Childcare Assistant Minister said:
"The Fair Work Commission is now in the process of determining professional wages for the sector – that’s a good thing.
I’ll acknowledge that there are issues about pay in the childcare sector. I visited about 200 centres in my time as opposition spokesperson. That’s why I’m very pleased that it’s now going where it needs to go, to the Fair Work Commission.
Finally United Voice took this where they are able to secure a lasting, permanent wage increase. That takes care of that." (7:30 Report, ABC TV.
But now Tony Abbott and his government are interfering with the process.
Previously Ms Ley went on Channel 10s The Project, saying “They [educators] are poorly paid. But the proper body to determine wages is the Fair Work Commission.”
Tony Abbott and his Government are playing with people’s careers, with their lives.

The future of childcare is too important.
We want a childcare system that delivers for families, children and educators. The government needs to let the court listen to those that matter most.
Tell Tony and his mates – enough is enough.
